White Town iTunes Chart

White Town iTunes Charts

Above is the UK iTunes chart for my songs, ranked by sales. I’m very chuffed that slots two and three are songs from my new album, ‘Don’t Mention The War.’ Yaay!

Also cool is that number four is an acoustic ballad from my second album, ‘Peek & Poke.’

Soon, my first album, ‘Socialism, Sexism & Sexuality‘ will be added to iTunes too and then I’ll have all four albums I’ve done on there (the EMI one has been up for ages, of course).

This is only possible thanks to the magnificently transparent and helpful CD Baby. Apple are an absolute pain to deal with personally, CD Baby rode to the rescue! They make the whole process of selling my music, either physical CDs or online, very, very easy.

If you’re an independent musician like me, check them out! :-D

Menezes’ Murderer Promoted

Jean Charles de Menezes
Jean Charles de Menezes – the forgotten victim of gun crime.

One of the senior officers in charge on the day Jean Charles de Menezes was shot dead by police has been promoted.

Commander Cressida Dick is now a deputy assistant commissioner – one of the highest ranks in the force, the Metropolitan Police Authority said.

The 27-year-old was shot seven times in the head and once in the shoulder at Stockwell Tube station after being mistaken for a suicide bomber on 22 July 2005, a day after the failed London bombings.

Lawyers for the Brazilian man’s family have been informed. When her promotion was first announced the family said they were “absolutely disgusted”.
(Source: BBC News)

Jean Charles de Menezes was murdered by the Metropolitan Police. The people that murdererd him are not just the officers who pulled the triggers, they are the commanders who oversaw this whole debacle.

Imagine being part of the Menezes family now. You’ve witnessed the cover-up, you’ve witnessed the lying. And now, one of the leaders of the operation that saw your innocent relative executed by a Met death squad gets promoted?

Please remember, under the phoney-War-On-Terror cover, this could happen to you or any of your family.

You could be shot in the head seven times as a suicide bomber, even though you’re only wearing a thin shirt and jeans. No coat, no bag, no obvious explosives anywhere on you. Once they’d killed you, the police would cover it all up, just as they have with Menezes.

This promotion shows the utter contempt the Metropolitan Police and the UK government hold for our lives and for the life of Jean Charles de Menezes. It’s a slap in the face for his family, still denied any justice for their murdered relative.

Apparently, Butcher Blair is bleating about getting tough on gun crime. Perhaps he should start with the trigger-happy police?

Science Vs. Faith

Via BoingBoing, have a look at these lovely flowcharts of scientific versus religious thought, courtesy of Wellington Grey:

Science flowchart

Yes, look at that. Lots of pesky brain usage, think of all the time that takes up. Time that could be better spent wiping out infidels and oppressing women! Let’s have a look at the religious mode of thought:

Now, isn’t that much less work? Me no brain hurt with duh religion!

Dream Club

nightclub

I’m currently going to Mosh Derby at the weekends and I have a great time there. But I can’t help but fantasise about what my dream club would be…

(wobbly wavy line effect)

Four floors:

Rock floor – stuff like Lamb of God, Converge, The Red Chord, Ed Gein, The Blood Brothers, God Forbid, Remembering Never, Pig Destroyer, Lard, 2nd Gen, Actarus.

Hip hop floor – stuff like AKIR, Skinnyman, Lupe Fiasco, Sweatshop Union, Reef the Lost Cauze, The Perceptionists, Rodney P, Sage Francis, Aceyalone, Cyne, Braintax.

Electronic floor – Autechre, Jeans Team, Spinform, Ulrich Schauss, Chris Clark, HEADPHONES, Ochre, Ellen Allien, Hrvatski, Venetian Snares, Frog Pocket, Like A Tim, Funkstörung.

Indie floor – The Format, Vapnet, Cats on fire, Neutral Milk Hotel, Voxtrot, Suburban Kids With Biblical Names, Billie the Vision & The Dancers, Deerhoof, Kante. (I’m afraid current NME haircut indie leaves me cold, so none of that Chas’n'Dave-on-guitars malarkey.)

There you go – four floors of heaven, for me. Maybe hell for you! Smile

Of course, the reason this could never happen is if the club played the stuff I like, there’d only be about three people dancing. Thus, it would shut down very, very rapidly… Barstaff sacked, DJs reduced to wanking-off rats in Soho for a living, tears all round.

This is the main problem – to keep a club going, you have to keep it full and the majority of punters happy, therefore you can’t go obscure enough to please the people who are very picky about their music.

But you can always dream… :-P

Now…. what would your Dream Club be? Hmmm?

Mosh Sat 17/2/07

Phew! The weekends are getting quite messy with two nights in a row at Mosh. Reminds me of when I was clubbing five nights a week years ago… I’d get in, fall asleep, wake and then shower all the dirt and cigarette stench off me before heading out again. Back then, it was the Blue Note and The Wherehouse that I’d alternate around, plus The Dial, of course. Strange to think that I’m back in The Wherehouse again now, albeit with a new name and considerable cleansing (er, the venue that is – I have the same name and am as grubby as ever).

Mosh Friday 16/2/07

Another superb night at Mosh, this time loads of peeps I know turned up, yay! I had oodles of fun dancing to AFI, Smashing Pumpkins, ATDI, Refused and many other sproingy tracks. And then I sang along to 10cc and Randy Newman on the way home – the perfect coda.

CIA Murderer Sentenced

Abdul Wali
Abdul Wali, murdered by the CIA.

A former CIA contractor convicted of mistreating a detainee in Afghanistan who later died has been jailed for eight years and four months.

David Passaro, 40, the first US civilian to be charged with abusing a prisoner since the Iraq and Afghanistan wars began, was convicted last August.

Mr Wali, an Afghan farmer, had gone to the US authorities voluntarily to clear his name over a rocket attack.

Afghan prisoner Abdul Wali was beaten in June 2003 and died two days later.
(Source: BBC News)

Another shining entry in the USA’s “liberation” of Iraq. Yes, America can be proud of Passaro, the intrepid CIA operative who beat an innocent man to death. But maybe he was carried away, in the heat of the moment, defending the stars’n'stripes against this evil Islamist?

No.

Passaro beat Abdul Wali for two consecutive nights, leading him to plead with prison guards to shoot him to end his suffering. Among other injuries, Wali suffered a suspected fractured pelvis that would have made it impossible for him to urinate. Passaro was also said to have kicked Abdul Wali in the groin in a football style kick that sent Wali in the air.
(Source: Wikipedia)

Thank God for the USA’s selfless campaign for the freedom of Iraqis, thank God for their “liberation” of Iraq from the cruel murderer Hussein. After all, under Hussein, Abdul Wali might have taken three days to die in horrible agony – the CIA shortened that to just two days.

And what does Passaro, the murdering, torturing fucking cunt have to say for himself? This:

Mr Passaro, who was convicted of felony assault, said: “He is a human being. I failed him. If I could go back and change things, it would have never happened. I wish I had never gone in to talk to him.”
(Source: BBC News)

Yes. He “failed him.” Kicking an unarmed man so hard as to break his pelvis, I’d call that a “failure.” Then beating him to death over two solid days, that’s also a “failure.”

What kind of monster treats another human like this? Why, a CIA “contractor.” Remember this, how the CIA truly behave, the next time you see neocon propaganda like ’24′ or ‘Threat Matrix’ on your telly.

Notice that Passaro’s sentence is felony assault. Not murder. Once again, despite damning eye-witness evidence, the USA shows how much it values Iraqi lives.

How This *Is* A Police State

Police state Forest Gate

A watchdog has told the Metropolitan Police to apologise to the two families involved in the “terrifying experience” of the Forest Gate anti-terrorism raid.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said it had upheld a small number of complaints about the operation in east London in June 2006.

One man was shot in the raid but he and another arrested man were not charged.
(Source: BBC News)

So… the police don’t like the look of you. You’re a bit browner than average, maybe you’re a Muslim. They manufacture some phoney War On Terror “intelligence” and break into your homes. They beat a 60-year-old man to the ground and pistol-whip another. Oh, and they shoot another unarmed innocent man.

After arresting you they… do nothing. No charges whatsoever are brought and the evidence melts away like February snow.

Then the IPCC steps in. Surely, they’ll extract justice for the innocents savagely attacked by the police.

Nope.

They do a bit of hand-wringing and basically say, ‘Well, what do you expect – these are Muslims after all! They should be glad we’re protecting their safety by busting their doors down and beating the shit out of them. We’re the police – WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE WANT WHENEVER WE WANT!’

If this had happened to a white, Christian family, I have no doubt it would be front page news. It wouldn’t just be a side-column about “regrettable but necessary” police brutality.

Let’s just look at the facts again: the police invaded people’s homes, beat people to the ground and then shot one unarmed man. No charges were brought, these people were totally innocent. The police that did this are still working today and have suffered no punishment for their attacks on innocent citizens.

Mr Abdulkahar said: “I don’t believe any form of intelligence they have is justification to attack people like this, brutally attacking my dad.

“He is 60 years old, he was half naked and they were beating him on the floor.”

Hanif Doga, who lived at one of the houses raided and says he was struck on the head with a gun, said: “I could have died from this injury, yet the IPCC dismiss it as a minor head injury and call for no further action.”
(Source: BBC News)

Another whitewash from the IPCC.

If this isn’t a police state, tell me what is.

Mosh 10/2/07

I thought I’d have a bit of a lonely, short night at Mosh tonight as I didn’t think anyone I knew was going. But then Amy and Heather turned up, then Gaz and Laura… so I actually stayed till nearly three.

Flashy Focusrite

I’m currently demoing a couple of bits of studio gear, a Focusrite Liquid Mix and an SSL Duende.

It’s a tough job deciding between them. The Focusrite has a handy, tweakable hardware unit, and loads of emulations of comps and EQs. The SSL just does an SSL – that’s your lot. But it does it immensely well.

This obviously needs a careful evaulation of both processors’ audio capabilities…

…or I could just get the Focusrite. IT’S GOT FLASHY LIGHTS! :-D
